Storm Season

Spring cleaning season is right around the corner! That means Spring storms are coming, too. Spring weather in the Midwest can be especially unpredictable, so now is the time to begin taking steps to prevent storm damage to your home. Here are a few tips to prepare for the stormy season ahead:

  1. Fix any existing roofing or siding problems. A licensed contractor can inspect your roof for missing shingles and possible leaks and reinforce any loose siding, which can quickly rip off during high winds.
  2. Replace landscaping gravel with mulch. Lava rock and other landscaping rock can cause damage if blown around in high winds.
  3. Clean those gutters. Clear your gutters of debris and reinforce attachments to the house. Strong winds can quickly tear loose gutters from your home and cause damage. Make sure downspouts are positioned away from your home’s foundation to help prevent basement flooding.
  4. Invest in a gas-powered whole-house generator. When the power goes out, things can go downhill quickly. Spoiled food, lack of hot water, and sweltering temperatures can make life miserable (and expensive) if your home loses power. A John Waters Heating and Cooling technician can assist in selecting an affordable whole-house generator to suit your needs.
